My First Impressions

I've had a lot of experience with electronic gadgets, computers, digital cameras and so forth over the years so I pretty much can figure out how to use them on my own using the instructions only if necessary. I have to admit that I love the challenge of figuring out how to use a newly purchased gadget. So when I took the row counter out of the box I was totally prepared to have to spend time trying to figure out how to use it even with the instructions. To my total surprise, I had this counter working for me in 5 minutes. All I needed to know was which button was for what function and before I knew it I had all three count functions used to keep track of the three different socks that I was working on. I was disappointed to say the least. This was too quick! I wanted to brag to my husband again about how smart I was for figuring out how to operate yet another electronic gadget all by myself. Well Nancy's Knit Knacks surely took away my glory when they designed this easy to use electronic row counter. It's too easy. That's a big plus for this row counter. It may look like it will be difficult to learn how to use but not so.

Nancy's Knit Knacks has two different models. Electronic Standard Row Counter and this one, Electronic Row Counter Plus. The standard model keeps track of only one set of numbers whereas the plus keeps track of 3 sets of numbers. To see a comparison of both click here. I prefer the plus model because as I said earlier, since I review yarn for yarn companies, I always have at least 3 different socks going at once and need to keep track of where I am on the pattern rows. I've been using my counter for awhile now and I have not been disappointed. It has maintained all 3 of my counts despite being tossed into my knitting bag many times. My knitting goes everywhere I do so my counter really gets a workout. It comes attached to a 19" black ribbon lanyard so that you can wear it around your neck. It's designed so that you can detach the counter from the lanyard. Now if you know me, you know I love my bling. Not being satisfied with a plain black ribbon around my neck, I had to make mine more stylish. LOL

•  Weighs just 1.5 ounces.

•  Includes a extra strong,  19" ribbon lanyard and is designed to hang around the  user's neck. The lanyard can be disconnected from the unit.
•  Includes a very long life battery (12-18 months from date of manufacture) which is user replaceable.

•  Has an audible "beep" which confirms that you have added or subtracted an entry. This feature can be easily turned off by means of the reset button (hold this button down for 3 seconds).

Some Things You Should Know

There is no power on/off button so the counter stays on all the time. This feature can be likened to a battery operated watch that runs till the battery wears out which is usually about a year then you have to bring it down to a jewelers to have the battery changed. While the battery life on the row counter is about a year maybe a little more, you can change it yourself with a battery that you can find in any store that sells batteries. I don't consider this a problem for me because the ability to keep track of three counts far outweigh the fact that it stays on.

Conclusion

Compared to row counters that we are accustomed to, the $28 price tag may seem a bit high but when you consider how well made the Electronic Row Counter Plus is and the fact that it does keep track of three different counts, goes up to 9999 and the numbers are changed with just a push of a button instead of turning a wheel or clicking a clicker, the price is very reasonable. If you find that you would love having an electronic row counter but can't afford the $28 you may want to consider the standard model for only $19.99. These row counters are certainly worth taking a look at.
